At A Glance 2008
January 2008
The Council hosted it's 5th
annual "Kick Off Breakfast" to begin the new year with a great
start. Special speakers were Mitchell Gentry, Tony Cruse, Dr.
Jim Surrency, and "Duke" Lang. There were nearly 40 people in
attendance.
February 2008
The Council sponsored it's 2nd
"Alert Academy" community service work week. Unit 38 arrived
on February 11th and gave a blessing to 16 Gilchrist
County widows and disabled by performing "patch and repair,"
yard or demolition work. members of the council have reported
progress on it's production of a historical DVD for
distribution. The DVD gives highlights of the Councils
History.
April 2008
The annual "Character
Celebration" took place at the Trenton Community Center. There
were 52 in attendance. It began with a delightful spaghetti
dinner for everyone. President Mary Dunn was the "Master of
Ceremonies" and Council Historian gave an overview of past
events. Door prizes were distributed and 30+ certificates were
awarded to both monthly personalities and supporters of the
Council for the past few years.
May
2008
The council participated in the annual "Memorial Day Parade"
with mascot Cari K. Tree riding in the rear of a decorated
truck. Distribution of the Character T-Shirts was
accomplished.
September 2008
A character display booth was
setup at the antique car show sponsored by the "Tyler Creek
Business Association." Due to election primaries, the Council
membership decided to change the month of it's annual
"Community Character Forum" from August to September. Guest
speakers included, Tommy Langford (Gilchrist County
Commissioner); Jo Buckles (Administrator of Ayres Health and
Rehab. Center); Rev. Merle Goodrich (Pastor: Community Church
of the Nazarene); Dr. Jim Surrency (Asst. Superintendent of
Gilchrist County Schools); and Clint Wood (Bell High School
J.R.O.T.C. Cadet). There were 48 people in attendance. A DVD
was viewed by all at the end of the meeting which highlighted
"The History Of The Character Council." It was produced by
Dale and Donna Murray. Character First Initiative information
packets were distributed to the newcomers.
October 2008
Again the Character Council
Sponsored a kids game booth at the "Down Home Days Festival."
This makes the 5th year in a row that we have participated in
this event. You really should join us! We not only promote
great character we have lots of fun doing it!
November 2008
For the 3rd
year the Council sponsored "The Loomis Brothers Circus." The
council has also participated with a Truck Float in the annual
Trenton "Veterans Day Parade" 3 years running. The Council
sponsored it's first ever "Thanksgiving Dinner" for it's
members and their spouses held at the Cracker Box Cafe in
Trenton. A booklet was given away as a gift, containing a poem
written by Geneva Cornwell and illustrated by Lynn Ferraro.
December 2008
It has been 5 straight years that the Council
has entered a decorated trailer float in the annual Town of
Bell Christmas Parade. For 3 years in a row the Council has
won a trophy for it's float. This year the float theme was, "A
Joyful Christmas" and was decorated with smiley faces. Smiles
took the gold!
