Faith Community Outreach
Because the Character Council recognizes how awesomely important the faith community is, and understands that the majority of people who unselfishly give of their time, talents and money, come from the faith community, the Character Council places much emphasis on enlisting the ideas of those people in the faith community.
Character Council efforts have been vastly blessed where the faith-based community has been involved with its past, present and future projects. Not a few youth pastors have been very interested in what the Character First! Initiative is all about, for those pastors consistently are looking for innovative ideas to assist the youth they pastor in leading lives, which are pure and right and unselfish.
One of the examples of how the faith-based community helped was in February 2007. Four Gilchrist County churches were involved in assisting the Character Council with its sponsorship of A.L.E.R.T. Academy Unit 36. Twenty-four young men from Big Sandy, Texas came to do service work for the community’s widows, disabled veterans and disabled elderly. It was five weeks in the planning, and not only did the faith-based community step forward with foodstuffs and food preparation, and transportation but, most of all, they gave their time in prayer, for a successful week.
Since its inception in 2001, several churches in the area have also invited the Character First! Initiative coordinators to make presentations before its congregations, allowing the members to see for themselves what Character First! is all about and what the Character Council is doing in the county. It is a passion of the Character Council to continue its work, especially among the faith community, simply because the Council believes that a County of character is a county that cares, and those of faith demonstrate that they truly care.
