Education
Education is what the Council is all about. Teaching children, youth
and adults that moral character is the heart of the matter, as we continue to
live lives which reflect a desire to serve and put others first.
Of the 67 counties in Florida, there are only four other counties, besides Gilchrist, which are “Counties of Character.” Gilchrist County is the only county which can boast of establishing the use of the Character First! curriculum in its school system, and which its School Board approved use of in January 2003.
The Character First! Curriculum, which can also be used at home,
in Sunday School or at adult or youth group or camp meetings, utilizes such a remarkable way to instill moral character in the hearts and lives of those
who put its principles to use through its study guides.
The Character First! curriculum has a total of six volumes so far; four for the elementary student level and two for the secondary student to adult
level. A fifth volume for the elementary level is currently in the production
stage.
Along with the Character First! curriculum, there are several
additional resources, such as laminated pocket guides, annual calendars, the Achieving True Success book, stationery, posters and even stuffed animals. There are videos and Power Point presentations available, also.
Yes, the Character Council believes that education is the key to success. Teaching and learning about moral character is one of its highest priorities, for the members of the Council believe that so goes the heart of an individual, so goes the world. |
